Skipping Stones Pillow

Free Crochet Pattern

This pillow was so fun to make! This burst of bobbles can add an elegant touch to your living space or a fun accent to a nursery. We used Lion Brand Cobblestone, a new worsted weight yarn that comes in a handful of beautiful natural colors. Cobblestone is plied with a strand of a lighter color which makes every stitch pop with definition. This yarn paired with all these bobbles and a single center pulled tuft makes this pillow just about as soft, squishy and bouncy as a pillow gets.

We owe a big thank you to our best friends at Lion Brand Yarn for giving us the opportunity to try this yarn and create this free pattern to share with all of you. Follow us on Instagram or Facebook to watch for our giveaway including the yarn and supplies for this pillow for 2 lucky winners!

Please enjoy this free pattern and if you have any questions you can comment here, email us at hello@clicketysticks.com or ask our friends in the Clickety Sticks Craft Community Facebook page.

Materials:
o 3 balls of Lion Brand Cobblestone, in color Fallen Rock or color of your choice
o Size i crochet hook
o Yarn Needle
o Stuffing of your choice (I used polyester fiberfill)
o Stitch Marker (optional)

Stitches used and abbreviations:
Ch
– Chain
Sl St – Slip Stitch
SC – Single Crochet
Bobble – * Yarn over, insert hook into stitch and pull up a loop. Yarn over, pull through two. * (This is essentially completing the first half of one double crochet stitch.) Repeat from * to * until you have 5 loops on your hook. Yarn over, pull through all 5 loops.
RSC - Reverse Single Crochet (there is a helpful tutorial below if you are unfamiliar with this stitch)

Important notes:
o Pattern is worked in rounds, joined with a slip stitch at the end of each round.
o The first stitch of each round is worked into the same stitch as your join.
o The entire front of the pillow is worked on the right side. When you make a bobble stitch, it will want to push itself towards the back of your work. You will have to push it back to the front as you work the single crochet immediately following the bobble.
o The number of stitches you should have will be shown in parenthesis () at the end of each round.

Join:

The 2 pieces will be joined with a reverse single crochet stitch all the way around. If you are unfamiliar with this stitch you can check out this great tutorial from Whistle and Ivy Modern Crochet here.

Hold the 2 sides together with right sides facing out, and the front side facing towards you. Join with a slip stitch to any stitch, going through both loops of the front and the back, and chain 1.

Work your first SC in the same stitch as your join.

Work the next single crochet in the next stitch to the right, from your first SC. So instead of crocheting right to left around the circle, you are going backwards. Continue around, until you are left with about 6-7 inches open. Stuff pillow, then continue to stitch the opening closed. Sl st to your first SC.

To pull the center of the pillow inward: Cut a piece of yarn at least 12 inches (if you still have a tail in the middle if your back piece you can use that), use a yarn needle to draw the yarn from back to front, straight up through the middle of the front of the pillow. Sew up and down a few times to secure, staying inside the first round of bobbles. Tie a few knots so this is very secure. Weave in remaining ends.

Enjoy!
