Grandma's Easter Egg Chicks

Every year growing up when the Easter decorations came out, I would admire the cute chicks my grandma knit. I always wished I had the pattern. As my knitting skills grew, I realized I could count the stitches and rows and create my own.

These cute little chicks are so quick and easy to knit. Add them to your Easter decorating or egg hunts. They are even great to knit up for your kids Easter parties and school.

Here’s what you will need to get started:

  • Approx. 1 ounce of worsted weight yarn in your choice of color

  • US 7 (4.5mm) straight knitting needles

  • Yarn needle

  • Small amount of stuffing

  • Googly Eyes

  • Small amount of orange felt

  • Glue of choice, I used tacky glue

Chick is knit from the bottom up in one flat piece then seamed together.

Abbreviations used: k - knit and p- purl

Cast on 30 stitches

Rows 1-5: (k1, p1) repeat to the end of row
Rows 6-17: Knit
Row 18: Bind off 10 stitches, knit to end of row
Row 19: Bind off 10 stitches, knit to end of row
Row 20-24: knit

Bind off

Fold the piece in half and starting from the bottom seam up the sides, the bottom stays open. Put a small marble sized piece of stuffing in the head. Using the orange felt cut out a small triangle beak. Glue on eyes and beak. Place an Easter egg in the chicks body.

I hope you enjoy knitting these as much as I did. Happy Easter!
