The Millennial Beanie Free Pattern

Over here at Clickety Sticks we grew up in the 80’s/90’s. Although Karrie and I were born a decade apart, we are both still considered millennials. We’ve always had our own personal styles but some things in common too. With the new debate between Gen Y vs Gen Z in the style department we thought this would be a fun pattern guaranteed to make everyone smile.

This hat is a great pattern for stash diving.  Get creative and experiment with using multiple colors the possibilities are endless. For an inexpensive, easy to print version click here.

Pattern Notes:

  • Hat is knit in the round from the brim up. Pattern is suitable for a beginner looking to expand into simple colorwork.

  • When following the chart, pattern starts on the bottom right with a knit row.

  • This hat is great for stash busting, the colors I used are listed below but any worsted weight yarn can be used.

  • Hat is sized for an adult and is slightly slouchy.

  • Gauge for a 4in x 4in is 17 sts x 23 rows


Supplies:

  • US 8 (5.00mm) 16 inch circular needles

  • US 8 (5.00mm) double pointed needles if desired for the crown decreases

  • 1 skein of Red Heart Super Saver Black

  • 1 skein of Red Heart Super Saver Stripes in Retro Stripes

  • Stitch Marker

  • Yarn needle


Millennial Beanie

For the Brim, cast 84 sts. with Black

Row 1: (K2, P2) rep to end

Rows 2-10: Repeat row 1

Start following the chart below, I did my letters in Retro Stripe.

After chart is completed start decreasing as follows:

Row 1: (K2tog) repeat to the end of row (42 sts.)

Row 2: K

Row 3: (K2tog) repeat to the end of row (21 sts.)

Row 4: K

Row 5: (K2tog) repeat to the last stitch K1 (11 sts.)

Cut yarn and pull tight through loops, sew seam and weave in ends.
