Strawberries

Valentines Day is right around the corner! I have been seeing so many cute knit and crochet items popping up that would be so fun to make and give as gifts.

I’ve been making this strawberry pattern for a while now but hadn’t ever gotten around to typing it up. After the cute crocheted ones in our previous post I was inspired to finally type up my pattern and add the modification to turn it into a chocolate covered strawberry.

Supplies:

  • US #6 (4.0mm) straight knitting needles

  • Worsted weight yarn of choice, I used:

    • Red Heart Super Saver in White

    • Red Heart Super Saver in Paddy Green

    • Red Heart Super Saver in Cherry Red

    • Red Heart Super Saver in Coffee (if you want to make a chocolate covered one)

  • Fiberfill Stuffing

  • Yarn Needle

Pattern Notes:

Strawberry is knit from the bottom up and seamed. If you would like to adapt the pattern to work in the round just substitute knit stitches when the pattern tells you to purl. All the details are stitched on after strawberry is completed.

Finished size approximately 3 in tall x 2 1/4 in wide at widest part.

Gauge not important. Great pattern for using up those yarn scraps.

Finishing:

Thread your yarn needle through the 3 stitches and pull tight. Sew down the side of your strawberry stuffing it as you go. Weave in all ends. Stitch on seeds and stem and enjoy!

Chocolate cover strawberry modification: Follow the pattern as given above but use brown for Rows 1-13. stitch on stem, sprinkles or chocolate drizzles. I chose to omit the strawberry seeds but you can still add those if you’d like.

Happy Knitting!

Fun fact: If you follow the above pattern but substitute bulky or super bulky yarn and the yarn labels recommended needle size and make giant strawberries!
