Simple Mini Crochet Stockings

While looking for something my son could gift his preschool classmates for Christmas, I thought little stockings stuffed with goodies would be so cute but knowing myself… they would need to be super quick and easy to make if I am going to get 15 of them done on time. It doesn’t sound like that many but after making 5 of something I am usually pretty sick of it and ready to move on!

These little stockings are constructed of all double and single crochet stitches, so they work up very quickly. The reverse single crochet border at the top gives it a nice finished look. It is also super fun to switch up the colors and make all different varieties. This keeps it exciting as well so you won’t get bored if you’re making a lot of them!

You could even try using a faux fur yarn around the top, or something with some glitter or tinsel for some extra holiday shine!

Materials:

  • Worsted weight yarn in colors of your choice

    • I used various scrap yarns I had leftover from other projects

  • Crochet hook size G (4.00mm)

  • Yarn needle

  • Scissors

Stitches:

  • Chain (CH)

  • Double Crochet (DC)

  • Single Crochet (SC)

  • Slip Stitch (SL ST)

  • Double Crochet 3 together (DC3tog)

Finished Size:

  • 6” tall x 3” wide

Pattern Notes:

  • The CH 2 at the beginning of each round does not count as a DC

  • This pattern is worked in rounds and joined with a slip stitch at the end of each round. You will not turn your work after each round (except during the heel portion)

Colors:

The color used for the toe, heel and top edge will be referred to as accent color

The rest will be referred to as main color

Fasten off leaving a tail about 10 inches long.

You will now fold the heel piece in half backwards and sew up the edge as shown in the picture. Weave the yarn through the stitches over to the other side of the heel, and sew up the other side.

Flip the heel right side out.

Leg

Join main color with a slip stitch in the first main color stitch to the right of the heel and CH 2.

Round 1: Starting in the same stitch that you joined into, DC3tog, placing the second DC right where the heel meets the toe, and the third DC in the first accent colored stitch of the heel. This will help make sure there is no hole in this area.

DC 10 across the heel. DC3tog in the corner again. The third DC should be going into the first main color stitch after the heel. DC into this stitch again. DC 10. Join with a slip stitch to your first DC. CH 2. (24)

Round 2-6 : DC in same place as slip stitch and each stitch around. Join with slip stitch to your first DC. CH 2. (24)

*Change to accent color with final yarn over of last double crochet of round 6. Join with slip stitch to your first DC. CH 1. (24)

Round 7: SC in same stitch as join, and each stitch around. Join with slip stitch to your first SC. CH 1. (24)

Round 8: Reverse single crochet around. Fasten off.
